When I first spoke with these soon-to-be first time parents on the phone, they didn’t know what to expect with a newborn session, but knew they loved my unique photography style. We connected so well that they even trusted me to know their baby’s name which they were keeping as a surprise for family. They knew they wanted more simplistic set ups so that their sweet baby girl was the focus of the photos.

They also wanted to include their dogs in their portraits which I always love. With the help of some treats I had brought, their dogs nailed it!

During our in-home consultation before the session, we got to know each other better and planned the session details. I learned that mom’s family was from Scotland, baby was named after great grandma’s favorite flowers, her grandparents are geologists, and mom used to ride horses while growing up. Little did they know, this casual conversation gave me lots of ideas to personalize their session for them.

And little did I know, when I used fluffy yarn to turn a cow into a the Scottish Highland cow for her session, that dad’s family also raises Highland cows. It was absolutely perfect!
